  3. Introduction notes that ‘differences of sentiment and opinion which appear in the course of these pages are the natural consequence of their being a joint production’. The letters signed ‘H.’ assume a male perspective (‘This ... put an end to the conversation, we soon after adjourned to the ladies’ [16]).
